Cleaning quotes in Metro Vancouver vary more than most people expect, and the spread is not simply a matter of some companies charging more. It usually reflects a genuinely different scope of work. Here is what actually moves the number.
What drives the price
- Type of clean — a deep clean can take three times as long as a regular clean of the same home
- Size, but bathrooms and kitchens matter more than floor area; they are the slowest rooms
- Condition — how long since the last thorough clean is often the biggest single factor
- Frequency — weekly and bi-weekly visits cost less per visit because there is less to do
- Pets, which add hair removal time to essentially every surface
- Clutter, because time spent moving belongings is time not spent cleaning
- Access — a downtown tower with loading-bay booking and elevator scheduling takes longer than a house with a driveway
Hourly versus flat rate
An hourly rate looks transparent and often is not: a low rate with no estimate of hours tells you nothing about the final bill, and it puts the risk of a slow job on you. A flat rate quoted against a defined scope tells you what you will pay and what you will get. Ask for the scope in writing either way.
Be wary of a quote given without anyone asking about the condition of the place. If nobody asks how long it has been since the last clean, the estimate is a guess, and guesses get revised upward on the day.
What a cheap quote often leaves out
- Liability insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage, which protect you if something is damaged or someone is hurt in your home
- Background checks on the people who will hold your keys
- Supplies and equipment, sometimes billed separately
- Any guarantee — if a job is not right, will they come back?
Questions worth asking before you book
- Is this a deep clean or a regular clean, and what specifically is included?
- Are you insured, and are your cleaners background-checked and employed rather than subcontracted?
- Will the same crew come each visit?
- What happens if I am not happy with the result?
- Are there cancellation fees or a minimum contract?
A company that answers all five without hesitating is usually the one worth booking, largely regardless of where it sits in the price range.
